Who is your perfect client?
I specialize in rekindling the spark for accomplished, educated partners who’ve lost their way. Through powerful, guided conversations, I help you rediscover yourselves and each other. As we peel back layers of miscommunication and unmet needs, you’ll revitalize your relationship and heal deep-seated personal wounds. Together, we’ll break harmful cycles passed down through generations, creating a ripple effect of positive change in your family and beyond.
What age range do you work with?
I work with individuals 18 years and up.
Do you work with men? Women? Couples? Adolescents?
I work with all genders and ages over 18. I specialize in couples work and offer individual sessions as well.
Are you LGBTQIA-friendly?
Absolutely.
Do you work with people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and religions?
Rare Insights Counseling is committed to providing a welcoming and affirming space for individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. We stand in support of those who have been marginalized due to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, age, ability, or health. Here, inclusivity isn’t just a value – it’s our foundation and commitment.
What can I expect in the first session?
Our first session is where we get to know each other. It involves mostly me getting to know you and your story. For couples, we go through the history of the relationship up to your current issues.
For clients seeking individual sessions, you get to steer the ship. I will ask questions and help guide you, but you oversee our discussion. I want to know your background and what’s most pressing on your mind.
What is therapy like with you?
Like a Tyler Perry dramedy, we will go deep and have moments of levity. I take my work and your mental health very seriously; everything else is up for comedic fodder. Our sessions feel more like talking to a friend with expertise in mental health and a vested interest in your betterment.
How long will I be in therapy?
There is no timeline for healing. Several factors will dictate this for you: how acute your presenting issue is, how long you have been dealing with said issue, and how quickly you want relief. Initially, I tend to work with clients more intensely to create momentum and stabilize them, effectively truncating their time in therapy. I’m a delight, but most people don’t want to be in treatment forever, which is understandable.
Let’s get you feeling better; if you want to keep coming in, we can work that out. The idea is to empower and equip my clients – so they don’t need to see me forever.
How long have you been in practice?
I have been working with couples and individuals for over 10 years now.
What are your strengths as a therapist?
I’m hilarious. I have a way of making therapy seem less contrived.
I also believe in my bones that everything makes sense in its context, and that helps to reduce my clients’ feelings of shame that can arise when dealing with deep-seated issues.
What do you enjoy about being a therapist?
I don’t think I will ever grow tired of hearing people’s stories. I love people, and I am aware of the immense privilege of hearing their stories.
Have you been in therapy yourself?
Oh, heck yeah. Don’t trust a chef who doesn’t eat their cooking.
What is your educational background?
I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, specializing in Couples and Families. Additionally, I have completed every Gottman Training available and consulted with the Director of Research at the Gottman Institute. That’s important to know because their work is evidence-based.
What is the best way to get in touch with you?
Email, call, or text.
Do you prescribe medications?
No, but I have fantastic colleagues in the area if you need a referral.
Are you licensed?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor in Texas.
Do you take notes?
I do, but mostly to remind myself what questions to ask you or resources to send you outside of the session. My files are stored in HIPAA-compliant software.
Is your furniture comfortable?
Yes. A comfortable couch is a must.
Do I have to lie on a couch?
Nope, but you are welcome to!
Should I wear waterproof mascara?
Wear it at your own risk.
What brand of tissues do you offer?
Typically, whatever is on sale at Costco. Lately, it’s been Kleenex. Don’t worry; I buy in bulk.
Am I allowed to ask personal questions?
Ask away! I may not answer, but ask whatever you like!
What apps make your life better?
The apps I like the best include Calm, Audible, and DuoLingo.
Cats or Dogs?
I prefer dogs, but our house has both. We also have had chickens for a season. As a kid, I even had a pet goat.
